The official launch of the Creative Poster Competition, organized by the Committee for the Popularisation of Science (CPS) of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) in collaboration with the Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya; Open University of Sri Lanka; and Peoples Bank as Business Promotional Partner, was successfully held on August 22, 2025, at the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies.

The event took place with the esteemed presence of Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Senior Professor P. M. C. Thilakerathne, Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Sri Lanka; and Prof. Bandara Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies.

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable future for all. It is important to provide awareness among the school children to identify their responsibility and contribution towards achieving those goals. The aim of the competition was to showcase the importance of SDG and our responsibilities towards achieving those goals among students and undergraduates with the objectives of promoting awareness of SDG among school children and university students, providing students with a platform to voice out their opinions on the responsibility towards SDG achievement, and showcasing Student Creativity

Dr. Ayomi I. Irugalbandara, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Education, Open University of Sri Lanka; Mr. Asitha Amarakoon, Senior Lecturer, Department of Fine Arts, University of Kelaniya; Dr. K. R. N. Harshani, Senior Lecturer, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya; and Dr. Chandana Kulasuriya, Senior Lecturer, Department of Civil Engineering participated as the Panel of Judges.

The event was further graced by the presence of Dr. Parakrama Weligamage, President Elect - SLAAS; Dr. Sameera Samarasekara, Chairperson (CPS- SLAAS) along with SLAAS Representatives; Prof. Narada Fernando, Chairmen, Peoples Bank, along with the representatives from the Peoples Bank; Prof. Ruwani Fernando, Head, Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya, along with the department’s staff members;  Prof. Susima Weligamage and Dr Chandana Kulasuriya, Project Coordinators; Ms. Sadali Sudasinghe, Senior Treasurer, FINSK; and both school and university students.
