Bridging Academia & Industry: A New Chapter with National Development Bank PLC

The Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya, proudly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Development Bank PLC on 16th February 2026 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, marking a significant milestone in strengthening academic–industry collaboration.

The MoU establish a formal partnership to provide internship opportunities and/or training to the undergraduates of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Banking degree programme and to conduct workshops, coaching, mentoring and facilitate visits to the NDB Bank in line with the Young Professionals Program (YPP) conducted by the Department of Finance of the University.

The signing ceremony was held at the Senate Room of the University of Kelaniya, and was graced by Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Professor Bandara Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies; Professor Ruwani Fernando, Head of the Department of Finance; Mr K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar, University of Kelaniya; Mr K. V. Vinoj, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, National Development Bank PLC; Mr Lasantha Dasanayaka, Vice President - HR, National Development Bank PLC; Representatives from NDB; academic staff; and undergraduates of the Department.

This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academia and the corporate sector by offering students access to real-world insights and industry mentorship, ultimately nurturing the next generation of Banking professionals.
