University of Kelaniya Signs MoU with Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka

The University of Kelaniya entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) to promote and recognise academic excellence in Capital Market-related education and research. The signing ceremony was held on 13 May 2026 at the Senate Room of the University of Kelaniya.

Through this partnership, the SEC will provide several opportunities and awards for students of the University, including the SEC Gold Medal and Cash Award for the Best Academic Performer in Capital Market-related subjects, a Cash Award for the Best Capital Market-related Research Project/Dissertation, a full scholarship for the Certificate in Capital Markets Programme conducted by the SEC, and an annual internship opportunity for a final-year undergraduate.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Prof. Bandara Wanniyake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies; Prof. Ruwani Fernando, Head Department of Finance, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, together with Mr. Tushara Jayaratne, Officer-in-Charge/Deputy Director General of the SEC; Ms. Sheena Goonaratne, Senior Manager – External Relations; and Mr. Nimal Kumarasinghe, Manager – External Relations.

This collaboration reflects the commitment of both institutions to strengthening industry-academia engagement and creating valuable opportunities for students in the field of Capital Markets.
