Faculty of Computing and Technology Welcomes New Batch with Grand Inauguration Ceremony

The Faculty of Computing and Technology at the University of Kelaniya celebrated a momentous milestone on August 13, 2025, with the inauguration ceremony for the 2023/24 academic batch. Held at the faculty's auditorium, the event marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey for over 250 new students who were welcomed into the prestigious programs.

The ceremony was graced by the distinguished presence of Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya as the chief guest, alongside with Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, University Registrar and Professor Dhammika Weerasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Technology. The event brought together the entire academic community, with all faculty academics and administrative staff in attendance, creating an atmosphere of unity and academic excellence.

The auditorium buzzed with excitement as students, accompanied by their proud parents, filled the venue to capacity. The ceremony served not only as a formal welcome but also as an inspiring introduction to the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead in their academic pursuits. The Vice-Chancellor delivered an encouraging address, emphasizing the importance of technology education in today's digital world and the university's commitment to providing world-class education in computing and technology fields.

Following the main inauguration ceremony, a special session was organized exclusively for parents, demonstrating the university's holistic approach to student support. This innovative parent-focused session was conducted in collaboration with the Student Affairs Division, highlighting the institution's recognition of the crucial role parents play in their children's academic success.

During this dedicated session for parents, experienced staff members from the Student Affairs Division provided valuable insights into the various challenges students typically encounter during their university years. The session covered topics ranging from academic pressures and time management to social adaptation and career preparation. Parents were equipped with practical guidance on how to support their children effectively while maintaining the appropriate balance between guidance and independence.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a sense of optimism and determination, as the new batch of students embarked on their academic adventure with the full support of their families, faculty, and the broader university community.
