IPRC 2025 Post-Conference Workshop Showcases Cultural Excellence Through Music and Dance

The Organizing Committee of the 25th International Postgraduate Research Conference (IPRC) 2025, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, successfully hosted the IPRC Post-Conference Workshop on the theme ‘Music & Dance Beyond the Culture.’ The event was held on 14th November 2025 at the Sri Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya.
The event was graced by Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), who attended as the chief guest. Other distinguished guests included Professor Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Director of the Indian Cultural Centre at the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, and Senior Professor P. A. Paranagama, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo. The workshop offered a vibrant platform for artistic expression, cultural appreciation, and academic enrichment. Participants were treated to a series of live demonstrations and performances by distinguished scholars and artists from Banaras Hindu University, India (BHU), as well as other esteemed institutions. The scholars included, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor (Flute), Department of Instrumental Music, Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University; Prof. Chandan Vishwakarma, Assistant Professor (Instrumental Tabla), Department of Instrumental Music, Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University; Prof. Shubhanker Dey, Assistant Professor (Hindustani Vocalist and Musicologist), Department of Musicology, Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University; Dr. Rajesh Shah, Professor in Sitar, Department of Instrument, Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University; Dr. Priyanka Bharde, Founder and Director of Sri Hiranmayi Kuchipudi Dance Institution, Hyderabad; and Dr. Nikhil Bhagat, Associate Professor in Tabla, Department of Instrumental Music, Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University.
Their masterful performances enriched the workshop with an immersive blend of music, rhythm, and classical artistry, offering participants a rare opportunity to experience cultural traditions beyond borders.
The event was held as an open invitation and welcomed a broad audience, including university academics, postgraduate and undergraduate students, musicians, composers, performers, school students, researchers, teachers, and the general public. The workshop aimed to strengthen cross-cultural understanding, encourage Sri Lankan–Indian academic and artistic collaboration, create a space for sharing ideas and creative practices, and highlight the global significance of traditional and contemporary performing arts all in one integrated platform.
The event marked another significant milestone in the IPRC 2025 series, reaffirming the University of Kelaniya’s ongoing commitment to fostering high-quality postgraduate research while strengthening global academic and cultural exchange.
