The 66th Anniversary of Maname celebrated festively at the University of Kelaniya

The Department of Sinhala of the Faculty of Humanities, the Sinhala Society, the Drama and Theatre Unit, and the Academic Players – the Arts Council of the University of Kelaniya

, organized a performance of Maname and a tribute ceremony to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the first staging of the classic stage drama, Maname. 

Two performances of the play were staged at 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm on the 3rd of November at the Dharmaloka Hall of the University of Kelaniya. Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya graced this event as the chief guest of this occasion.  ‘Mahēduru saraccandra prāmā suyāmaya’, a tribute ceremony was held to appreciate the contribution of Mrs. Lalitha Sarachchandra and other artists of the drama. The veteran artists Lalita Sarachchandra, Nissanka Diddeniya, Buddhadasa Galappaththi, Peris Samarawickrama, Wilman Sirimanna, K. H. Wimalasena, Karuna Ratnaseeli, Nandana Gunasinghe, Nandani Hettiarchchi, Kumari Menike, Sunil Tillakaratne, Wijitha Wijeratne and Deepika Thelma Mendes were awarded at this ceremony by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya.  Also, ‘66 to Maname’, a commemorative collection was launched on this occasion.
