In an outstanding accomplishment, four students from the Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya, specialising in Japanese, have been awarded the prestigious MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship for 2024. This full scholarship, offered by the Japanese government, is highly competitive and allows students to study in Japan for a year.
Remarkably, these four students are the only recipients of the MEXT Scholarship in Sri Lanka for 2024, making this a significant achievement for the university. The scholarship offers them a life-changing chance to immerse themselves in Japanese language, culture, and education at some of Japan’s top universities.
Accordingly, S. B. P. De Silva and A. A. Nimesh Maleesha will attend Osaka University, while M. P. R. Perera and M. Y. D. Dissanayake will attend Hokkaido University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, respectively.
