Certificate Awarding Ceremony Marks Completion of Japanese Language for Professional Purposes Course

The Japanese Unit of the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Kelaniya hosted a Certificate Awarding Ceremony for students who completed the 9-month Certificate Course in Japanese Language for Professional Purposes. The event was held on the 21st of November 2024 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities.
This event highlighted the achievements of participants who acquired valuable Japanese language skills tailored to professional settings. The 9-month certificate course aimed to provide students with essential language skills to navigate professional environments effectively, focusing on real-world applications of Japanese in the workplace.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including Venerable Senior Professor Nedalagamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Head of the Department of Modern Languages; Professor Dilrukshi Rathnayake, a professor in Japanese Language; and Ms. Minami Munakata, a Japanese language specialist from the Japan Foundation.
A standout moment of the ceremony included a heartfelt speech delivered by a student, who utilized the Japanese language skills they had learnt throughout the course, further showcasing the practical benefits of the program. The ceremony also featured performances by two students from the BA Honours Japanese degree program, who showcased their proficiency in Japanese through songs, adding cultural depth to the event.
Also, this awarding ceremony underscored the growing demand for Japanese language proficiency in Sri Lanka’s job market and highlighted the commitment of the Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya, to fostering professional skills through cultural and linguistic education.
The event also witnessed the participation of lecturers, students, and their families.
