Two-Day Seminar for Japanese Language Teachers in Sri Lanka

The Japanese Unit of the Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, successfully organized a two-day seminar for Japanese language teachers across Sri Lanka. The seminar was held on the 5th and 6th of December 2024, at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities, attracting approximately 100 dedicated school teachers from all over the island.

The purpose of this seminar was to enhance the teachers’ proficiency in the Japanese language and their teaching competencies, reflecting the growing demand for high-quality Japanese language education in Sri Lanka. Invitations were sent to schools, encouraging teachers who wished to enhance their knowledge and skills to take part in this event.  

A distinguished lineup of speakers contributed to the seminar, sharing their expertise on various aspects of Japanese language education. Dr. Madhubashini Deldeniya, Senior Lecturer at the National Institute of Education, Maharagama, delivered an insightful lecture on the school syllabus, providing valuable guidance for teachers on curriculum design and implementation.

Professor Dilrukshi Rathnayake, a professor in Japanese Language at the University of Kelaniya, presented an engaging session on intercultural communication and effective methods of teaching Japanese grammar. Her lecture emphasized the importance of bridging cultural understanding and adopting innovative teaching techniques to enhance students' learning experiences.

Ms. Minami Munakata, a Japanese language specialist from the Japan Foundation, captivated the audience with her presentation on pronunciation and Japanese literature. Her session provided practical strategies for improving language accuracy and explored the richness of Japanese literary works.
