University of Kelaniya Commemorates World Hindi Day Golden Jubilee

A program, organized by the Department of Hindi Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, was held on the 9th of January 2025 at the Board Meeting Room, Faculty of Humanities (K14 101), to commemorate the golden jubilee of World Hindi Day under the theme “Hindi in the Global Scenario”.

Prof. Mukesh Kumar Mishra, the principal of the K. S. M. P. G. College, Uththar Pradesh, India and editor of the Hindi poetry collection Man Ki Anubhoothi, participated as the Chief Guest of the event.

The primary objective of the program was to encourage students to engage with native Indian academics, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise through a series of lectures.

The lecture series was conducted by distinguished scholars, including Prof. Mukesh Kumar Mishra; Prof. Jayanth Kar Sharma, Former Head of the Department of Hindi, Orissa Open University, Sambhalpur, India; and Prof. Balram Gupth, Head of the Department of Hindi, Shivharsh Kisan Postgraduate College, Uththar Pradesh. The program also included a recital of traditional Indian folk poetry by Dr. Sonam Seth, Principal of the Rewathi Girls College, Firozabad, Uththar Pradesh, India, a renowned expert in Hindi folk literature. Additionally, the event featured the launch of the Hindi poetry collection Man Ki Anubhoothi, edited by Prof. Mukesh Kumar Mishra, which comprises Hindi poems authored by Sri Lankan academics.

Other notable participants included Dr. Neetha Senevirathna, Head of the Department of Hindi Studies; Prof. Lakshman Senevirathna; Prof. Anusha Salwathura; Senior Lecturer Udeshika Perera; Senior Lecturer Hasara Hirimuthugoda; Junior Academic Staff, and the undergraduates of the department.
