“Tha 2025” Cultural Show Held at University of Kelaniya

“Tha 2025” cultural show, organised by the Performing Arts Students’ Association of the Department of Fine Arts, University of Kelaniya, was held on the 5th of March 2025 at the Sri Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya. This event was primarily aimed at enhancing the performing skills of the students.
During Tha 2025, the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, proudly presented the Performing Arts Dance Society’s performance. Tha theme for 2025 was "Intangible Cultural Heritage."
This was an exploratory effort to uncover untouched roots within various traditions of dance, presented as a performance for the audience’s artistic enjoyment. The primary goal was to stage a performance that safeguards traditional heritage, while stepping into the future with an academic approach to artistic exploration.
Tha 2025 performance integrated Up-country, Low-country, and Sabaragamuwa dance traditions alongside folk dance elements, Indian Bharatanatyam, Kathak dance traditions, and traditional drum performances. Additionally, it incorporated innovative contemporary experiments within stage choreography.
This cultural event played a significant role in promoting awareness and collaboration among the diverse cultural communities within society. This artistic exploration transcended time and stood as a creatively performed perspective. It brought recognition to the Department of Fine Arts, preserved the identity of the Faculty of Humanities, and enhanced the prestige of Kelaniya University.
The event was graced by the presence of Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Senior Lecturer Lanka de Silva, Head of the Department of Fine Arts, along with the academic and non-academic staff members and students of the department; and the academic and non-academic staff members and students of the other departments of the university.
