Watercolour Painting Workshop held at University of Kelaniya

A watercolour painting workshop, organised by the Visual Arts and Design Student Society (Vista) of the Department of Fine Arts, University of Kelaniya, was held on the 1st of March 2025 at the Senake Bandaranayake premises, University of Kelaniya.

As a highly versatile medium, watercolour can be used to create various styles with the use of a variety of techniques. This workshop aimed at enhancing students' technical skills in the basic tools and techniques of the watercolour medium.

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Nuwan Nalaka, a renowned contemporary artist and a visiting lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts, University of Kelaniya. After an introduction to watercolour medium and related tools, two practical sessions covered essential watercolour painting techniques. 20 Visual Arts and Design students from the Department of Fine Arts participated in this workshop.

Senior Lecturer Asitha Amarakoon, Senior Treasurer of the Visual Arts and Design Students Society (Vista), and the temporary academic staff of the Department of Fine Arts were also present at the event. This event was organised under the guidance of the Senior Lecturer Ms. Lanka de Silva, Head of the Department of Fine Arts, University of Kelaniya.
