A Cherished Legacy: Parents of Late Mr. Rusiru Kalpagee Chitrasena Donate Valuable Book Collection to the University of Kelaniya

In a heartfelt tribute to the life and legacy of the late Mr. Rusiru Kalpagee Chitrasena, former Lecturer at the Department of English Language Teaching, University of Kelaniya, his parents, Mr. C. Hettimullage and Ms. Priyanthi Mendis, generously donated a rare and valuable collection of advanced English language, literature, and English language teaching books worth more than 1 million in Sri Lankan Rupees.
The formal handing over of the collection of books took place on the 13th of October 2025, in the presence of Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, and Ms. Gevani Prahalathan, Head of the Department of English Language Teaching.
This treasured collection will be housed at both the Resource Centre of the Department of English Language Teaching and the Main Library of the University of Kelaniya, ensuring that generations of students and educators continue to benefit from Mr. Rusiru’s passion for language and learning.
This meaningful gesture by the late Mr. Rusiru's parents stands as a testament to their son’s enduring commitment to education and his lasting impact on the academic community. Though Mr. Rusiru is no longer with us, his spirit lives on through the knowledge he cherished and the lives he touched.
