A Warm Welcome to the Second Batch: Inauguration Ceremony of the PgD in Japanese 2025-2026

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Postgraduate Diploma in Japanese, organized by the Japanese Unit of the University of Kelaniya for the second time, was successfully held on October 11, 2025, at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya.

The event hosted by the Center for Japanese Studies with the aim of warmly welcoming the new batch of students and providing them an understanding of the significance and academic value of the Postgraduate Diploma program. It also served as a platform to strengthen the ties between the students, staff, and special guests who contribute to the program’s success.

The chief guest of the event was Mrs. Miyuki Eguchi, First Secretary and Head of Cultural and General Affairs at the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. Among the other distinguished guests were Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Science; Mr. Susumu Oya, Specialist in Japanese Language from the Japan Foundation and Honorary Visiting Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya; Mrs. Mayumi Oya and Mrs. Yuki Minamidani, Specialist in Japanese Language from the Japan Foundation and Honorary Visiting Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya. Their presence added great value to the event and highlighted the strong academic and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Japan.

The event was attended by Professor Dilrukshi Rathnayake, Professor in Japanese Language at the University of Kelaniya; guests; graduates of the first batch; newly enrolled students of the second batch and staff members.
