A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Kelaniya and Chuvash State Pedagogical University, Russia was signed on the 21^st of October 2025 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, University of Kelaniya.

Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, signed the MoU representing the University of Kelaniya, while Prof. Ilina Svetlana, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs signed on behalf of Chuvash State Pedagogical University. The Russian delegation also included Prof. Nikitina Alexandra, Prof. Vasileva Larisa and Prof. Zalomnova Svetlana.

Cooperation between the two universities, especially in the field of Russian language was discussed and Chuvash State Pedagogical University expressed interest in collaborating with other faculties and departments of the University of Kelaniya.

Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean, Faculty of Humanities; Ven. Senior Prof. N. Dhammadhinna Thero, Head, Department of Modern Languages; and lecturers from the Russian language section attended the event. Dr. Samanthi Jayawardena, Director and. Ms. Rasangi Gamage, Coordinator of the Centre for International Affairs were also present.
