Gītābhivandanā Musical Programme Successfully Concludes

The Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies at the University of Kelaniya successfully held its annual Gītābhivandanā musical programme on 25 February 2026 near the K14 premises of the Faculty of Humanities.
This year’s event was organized under the theme “Abhiruchi”, celebrating aesthetic appreciation and the spiritual values expressed through music and culture.
The programme was presented by the renowned senior journalist and singer Ms Arosha Samaradiwakara. The artistic concept for the programme was developed by Ven. Senior Professor Induragare Dhammarathana Thero of the department, whose vision aimed to promote the harmonious integration of music, culture, and intellectual reflection within the academic community.
The event was organized by Saṁprāśā, the Student Union of the Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies, demonstrating the active engagement and creative contribution of students in enriching the cultural life of the faculty. The programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of the Head of the Department, Ven. Dr Udawela Revatha. The occasion was further honoured by the presence of Dr Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, along with members of the academic and non-academic staff. A large number of undergraduate students and members of the wider university community also attended the event.
The Abhiruchi programme created a vibrant cultural atmosphere, blending music, scholarship, and spiritual reflection. It served not only as an artistic experience but also as a meaningful platform that strengthened the cultural and intellectual bonds within the university community, highlighting the continuing role of traditional arts in contemporary academic life.
