Junior Research Symposium on Humanities 2018

Junior Research symposium on Humanities organized for the 2nd consecutive time by the Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, with the objective of developing research skills of the undergraduates was held on the 31st of October 2018 at Kotahena Sri Pragnakirthi Memorial Hall.

Around 100 research papers under the fields of Sanskrit Studies, Fine Arts, Language and Literature, Language Teaching, Linguistics, Philosophy and Religious Studies were presented at the Symposium. The symposium was conducted under three main sessions and its speciality was the poster presentation session.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Praneeth Abeysundara, Department of Human Sciences- University of Sri Jayewardenepura delivered the keynote speech and he emphasized on the meaning of research, how new knowledge is created through research and the need for new research.

Prof. Patrick Rathnayake, Dean- Faculty of Humanities, Cadre Chair and Senior Prof. N.P. Sunil Chandra, Chairman- Research Council, Ven. Dr. Kapugollewe Anandakiththi Thero, Chief student Counsellor, Ven. Dr. Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero, Director- Inter-Faculty Center for Coordinating the Modular System, Senior Lecturer Dr. Udara De Silva and Senior Lecturer Mr. Buddhika Jayasundra- the coordinators of the Symposium, academic staff members of the department graced the event which was held under the patronage of Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya.

At the end, all the undergraduates who presented their research papers at the symposium received certificates and those were distributed to them under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
