Scholarship Winners to China meet the Vice-Chancellor

Students who won scholarships to China from the Confucius Institute of the University of Kelaniya met Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva,

Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya on the 11th of August 2023 at the senate room of the university.

From 2019 to 2022, 24 students were unable to go to Chongqing Normal University in China for their scholarships due to corona pandemic. Among them, 10 had one-year scholarships and 14 had six-month scholarships.

In 2023, 31 students received scholarships to study at different universities in China including Chongqing Normal University, Southwest University, Yunnan Normal University, and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics. Among them, nine students had one-year scholarships, 18 had six-month scholarships, and 2 were selected for Weekend Certificate Courses in the Chinese Language.

Fifty-five scholarship holders are getting ready to go to China in September 2023.

Two students, Mohomed Ariff Fathima Safiya who won the overall title of the 22nd China Bridge Competition in 2023and Nishahansi Adhikari, who won the 02nd Place of the 22nd China Bridge Competition in 2023 will also be visiting China for their finals in August.

Furthermore, it is noteworthy that most of these students are from the Department of Modern Languages of the University of Kelaniya.

Present at the occasion were Professor Nedalagamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Head of the Department of Modern Languages, Dr. Wu Hongyuan and Dr. Jani Samarakoon, Co-Directors of the Confucius Institute, Associate Professor Tang Ying, Scholarship Coordinator in China Side, and other staff members of the Confucius Institute.
