A plot of land owned by the Child Development Center, Thalagolla transferred to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Ragama

The University of Kelaniya, the country's leading Green University, has initiated and implemented multiple steps to ensure environmental and social sustainability in its activities and conduct.

Taking another step towards achieving these policy objectives, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Kelaniya and the Board of Trustees of the Child Development Center, Thalagolla at a ceremony held on 16th September 2022 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya.

The event was organized by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kelaniya with the objective of expanding the Green Cover of the faculty which is essential for the local and international Green Metrix ranking of the University.

The new plot of land covers over one acre and it will be used to increase the green cover of the faculty, improving the premises' aesthetic value and biodiversity. Staff and undergraduates will engage in systematic planting of various flowering, fruit, vegetable, medicinal, and endemic plants. The land will further be improved as a leisure area to uplift the physical and mental health of the undergraduates by providing walking paths, gazebos, and seating areas.

Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Senior Prof. Janaki Hevawisenthi, Dean - Faculty of Medicine, and Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar graced this ceremony. Mrs. Sheril Jinesena, Dr. Ashvini Fernando and Prof. Ranil Fernando were present at the event, representing the Board of Trustees of Thalagolla Child Development Center. Members of the academic, administrative, and non-academic staff and undergraduates of the Faculty of Medicine also participated in this event.
