Centrifuge kits are used in Ribonucleic acid (RNA) extraction for Covid-19 PCR tests and it is time consuming.
Autoextractors are used to do the procedure effectively but they are expensive.
A research team from the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya has invented a vacuum manifold to do any kind of RNA Extraction avoiding the previous issues. This cost-effective invention speeds up the process of PCR testing, secures the safety of laboratory technicians, and reduces the probability of bio sample mixing.
The research team consists of Mr. Ishara Rajapaksha, Mr. Kasun Piyumal, Research Assistants- Department of Physics and Electronics, and Ms. Tashmi Manilgama, Ms. Harsha Hapugaswatte- Research Assistants, Department of Chemistry. They are guided by Senior Prof. S. R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean- Faculty of Science, Senior Prof. Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman- Research Council, and Prof. Nimanthi Jayathilaka, Department of Chemistry.
