Educational Training Project on Prototype Manufacturing of Solar Panels

A programme to introduce low-cost manufacturing of solar panels by the Educational Training Project on Prototype Manufacturing of Solar Panels and promote solar power in parallel with the National Science Week celebration was held on the 14th of November 2021 at the University of Kelaniya.

Main objective of this educational training project under the administration of State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation is to do the capacity-building of local scientists and technical personnel in solar energy and to create awareness among school students. This project is being implemented at the University of Kelaniya, University of Jaffna, and University of Peradeniya and the project office is located in the University of Kelaniya. National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority are partners of this project. National Institute of Fundamental Studies and Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology are research partners of the project who involve in training sessions. Trainees of the First Solar Technicians Training Programme of NAITA was also awarded.

Ravirajan, Prof. D. S. M. de Silva, Senior Lecturer Dr. B. S. Dassanayake, Deputy Project Directors- Educational Training Project on Prototype Manufacturing of Solar Panels, and other project members attended the event.

Further, Mrs. Kumari Meegahakotuwa, Director General (Planning)- State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation, Mrs. Nimali Kulatunga, Director (Planning)- State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation, Mrs. Nazeema Ahamed, Director General- Office of Reparations, Mr. G. H. Nilantha de Silva, Director (Training)- National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, Mr. Sulakshana Jayawardana, Director General- Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Mr. Padmadewa Samaranayake, Project Coordinating Officer- Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Eng. Ms. Nayana G. D. Wijesiriwardene, Research Fellow- National Engineering Research and Development Centre graced the event.

This was arranged with the participation of a limited number of people by following the health guidelines.
