The inauguration ceremony of the BSc Honors in Sports Science Degree Programme was held on the 5^th of June 2023, at the Board Room of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya.

The event was organized to welcome the new undergraduates of the 2021/2022 intake.

The event was graced by the presence of Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya as the chief guest, and Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean-Faculty of Science. The Head of the Sports and Exercise Unit, Professor Aruna Wanninayake, academic, and non-academic staff members of the unit were also present at the occasion.

Moreover, addressing the newcomers, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University, emphasized the importance of balancing academics and sports and other extracurricular activities while enjoying the University’s unique culture. The Dean of the Faculty of Science, Senior Professor S. R. D. Kalingamudali, highlighted the diverse opportunities available locally and globally for BSc (Hons) Sports Science graduates and stressed the value of developing skills to overcome the challenges that they might face during their undergraduate journey. Furthermore, valuable speeches from Professor Ajith Dissanayake, Sports advisory board member, Professor M. A. Y. L. Nadeesha, Director of Student Affairs, and Mr. Saman Kumara, Acting Director of Physical Education highlighted the event.
