The University of Kelaniya introduces a Media Engagement Ratings (MER) Device

The Electronic Design and Innovation Center (EDIC) of the Department of Physics and Electronics of the University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with OnAct (Pvt) Ltd introduced a Media Engagement Ratings (MER) device on 11th January 2023 at a pre-launching ceremony held at Galadari Hotel Colombo.

This Media Engagement Ratings (MER) device is a cost-effective and automated solution designed to recognize the existing challenges in the TV Broadcast Rating System in Sri Lanka, including the lack of automated real-time reporting and accuracy and reliability issues. It aims to address the issues faced by media companies and advertisers by preparing an index of television viewing patterns of household units in Sri Lanka.

To ensure the credibility of the Media Engagement Ratings (MER), the reports generated by the device will be validated by the Communication Research Unit (CRU) of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya.

Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, participated as the Chief Guest of the event while Senior Professor Chandana P. Udawatte, Vice-Chairman of University Grants Commission participated as the Guest of Honor. Moreover, distinguished dignitaries including Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali; Dean of the Faculty of Science and Group leader of the Electronics Design and Innovation Centre, Professor Ravi Dissanayake of the Department of Marketing Management and Director of Staff Development Centre, Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe; Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Lalith Sumanasiri Godakanda; Managing Director - Ogilvy Digital,  Mr. Raveen Seneviratne, Mr. Pubudu Jayasekara and Mr. Tharindu Gurusinghe; Directors of OnAct (Pvt) Ltd graced the event.

Industry leaders, media professionals, and key stakeholders were also present at the occasion.
