The exhibition of the first Sri Lankan Prototype Solar Panels took place at the Main Project Office at the University of Kelaniya on the 2nd of February 2024. They were designed by researchers affiliated with the Universities of Kelaniya, Peradeniya, Jaffna, and the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS), Sri Lanka. This education training project was carried out under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka.
The occasion was graced by the officials representing the Development Division, International Relations Division, Accounts Division, and Planning Division of the Ministry of Education, officials of the National Innovation Agency, related research teams, and Mr. Siva Sivanandan, an entrepreneur from the United States of America who initiated this project.
Postgraduate candidates Ms. Udani Gajanayaka of the University of Kelaniya, Mr. Isuru Lakmal, and Mr. Nipuna Bandara of the University of Peradeniya served as researchers in designing these solar panels.
Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, was the Project Director, and Deputy Project Directors were, Professor Emeritus Mr. Lakshman Dissanayaka of the NIFS, Dr. Buddhika Dassanayaka of the University of Peradeniya, Professor Sujeewa De Silva of the University of Kelaniya, Professor Mr. P. Ravirajan of the University of Jaffna. Dr. Kasun Piyumal was the Assistant Project Manager.
