The Faculty of Science at the University of Kelaniya officially launched its Open Day 2025 with a brief but vibrant opening ceremony, held on May 16, 2025, at the Faculty Lobby. The event commenced under the theme “Discover, Explore, Innovate, and Design Your Future at the Faculty of Science,” marking the beginning of a two-day programme designed to inspire and inform the next generation of scientists.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, along with Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Dhammika Weerasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Technology; Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar; academic staff, students, and visitors. In her address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the faculty’s pivotal role in advancing scientific education and innovation, while warmly welcoming students, parents, and educators from across the country.
Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali commended the team’s dedication to organising a dynamic outreach event that effectively bridges secondary education with university-level science.
The Open Day continued on 16 and 17 May, featuring interactive demonstrations, information sessions, laboratory tours, and student engagement activities across multiple scientific disciplines. The event reflected the faculty’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and national development through science and technology.
