One-Day Training Workshop on Plant Tissue Culture Techniques for KDU Students

A one-day training workshop on Plant Tissue Culture Techniques for the students of General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University (KDU) was successfully conducted on 11th September 2025. The program was hosted by the Floriculture Research Center, Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, at the Henarathgoda Botanical Garden, Gampaha.

The workshop aimed to provide hands-on training in modern plant tissue culture methods, equipping them with essential knowledge and laboratory skills applicable to floriculture, large-scale plant propagation, and conservation research.

The sessions were coordinated by Dr. Wasana de Silva, Director of the Floriculture Research Center, and conducted by Ms. Nipuni Alvis, Ms. Dharika Rajapaksha, and Ms. Lakshani Sagarika, Temporary Teaching Staff of the Center. Their expertise and guidance allowed students to gain valuable practical experience while strengthening their understanding of tissue culture as a vital tool in plant biotechnology.

Academic staff members of KDU, including Prof. Nilanthi Dasanayaka and Ms. Fathima Azna from the Department of Biosystems Technology, Faculty of Technology, also actively participated in the event. Their contribution underscored the importance of inter-university collaboration in enhancing education, fostering research partnerships, and capacity building in applied plant sciences.
