A felicitation ceremony, organized by the Department of Physics and Electronics, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on 18th September 2025 at the faculty premises to honor Dr. (Mrs) Udaya Kanthi Abeywarna, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics and Electronics, marking her retirement and in recognition of her 40 years of dedicated service.

Dr. Abeywarna has made remarkable contributions to teaching, research, and academic development since joining the University in 1985. Over four decades, she has played a pivotal role in mentoring generations of students, advancing research in physics, and strengthening academic programs within the faculty. Her service stands as a model of commitment and excellence to the university community.

The ceremony was graced by Emeritus Professor T. R. Ariyaratne of the Department of Physics, University of Colombo; Senior Professor S. R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; and Senior Professor L. B. D. R. P. Wijesundera, Head of the Department of Physics and Electronics, together with Heads of Departments of the Faculty of Science; academic staff members; non-academic staff; and students. The event marked heartfelt tributes honoring Dr. Abeywarna’s retirement and celebrating her outstanding service, dedication to academic excellence, and invaluable contribution to the growth and reputation of the University of Kelaniya.

The Department of Physics and Electronics proudly recognizes her 40 years of service and wishes her a happy retirement.
