Inauguration Ceremony of the BSc Honours MIT/IT Programme for the Academic Year 2024/2025

The Department of Industrial Management marked an inspiring beginning to the BSc Honours Degree programmes in Management and Information Technology / Information Technology with the inauguration of the 2024/2025 intake, welcoming its newest cohort of future innovators and industry leaders. The event was held on December 8, 2025, at the Auditorium of the Department of Industrial Management.
As one of the pioneering departments of the Faculty of Science, the Department of Industrial Management was established with a bold and visionary mandate, to empower science undergraduates with strong management competencies and to bridge the gap between management and information technology for the first time in Sri Lanka’s university system. Today marked yet another defining milestone in this progressive journey, as the Department proudly welcomed a new cohort of undergraduates, continuing its commitment to shaping well-equipped professionals who contribute meaningfully to industry and society.
The ceremony was graced by Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, who emphasized the importance of nurturing well-rounded citizens capable of navigating an increasingly complex and technology-driven world. Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science, provided an informative overview of the Faculty’s achievements and highlighted the significant contributions of the Department of Industrial Management in advancing interdisciplinary learning and academic excellence. The academic staff of the Department of Industrial Management, led by the Head of the Department, Dr. Dilani Wickramaarachchi warmly welcomed the newest addition to their Department .
This marked the first day of an engaging 10-day Orientation Programme, setting the tone for a series of sessions, activities, and interactions designed to guide, inspire, and equip the new cohort for a successful academic journey ahead. Over the coming days, students will participate in interactive workshops, mentorship sessions, and team-building activities that will help them integrate into the Department and develop both academically and personally.
