It had been decided to build a CKDu Information and Research Centre at the University of Kelaniya to be implemented under the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science. The foundation stone laying ceremony of the centre was held on the 29^th of August 2018 at the premises of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya. The building will be built based on a research proposal by Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Head- Department of Chemistry and the financial assistance provided by the Presidential Task Force.

Prof.D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of University of Kelaniya and Mr. Asela Iddawela, President- CKDu Prevention Unit, Presidential Task Force graced the occasion as the Chief Guests. Moreover, Prof. B.M. Jayawardhena, Dean- Faculty of Science, Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Head- Department of Chemistry, academic staff members of the Department of Chemistry, Mr. W.M. Karunarathne, Registrar and undergraduates participated in the event.
