Senior Prof. S.R.D. Kalingamudali was appointed as the new Head of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya. The appointment letter was handed over to the Head by the Acting Vice- Chancellor, Senior Prof, Lakshman Senevirathne on the 6^th of April 2019 at the Vice- Chancellor’s Office.

Present at the occasion were Ms. Dhammika Ambegoda, Assistant Registrar- Academic Establishment Division and academic staff members of the Department of Physics.

Senior Prof. S.R.D. Kalingamudali obtained his bachelor’s degree (BSc) from the University of Kelaniya and is a CSci, CEng, CPhys, FIET, FlnstP, FIP(SL), MIEEE qualified professor.

Design and Implementation of Smart Standalone Gas Fire Security System for Domestic Usage, Novel Approach for Harnessing Maximum Energy from PV Systems Using Supercapacitors, Supercapacitor Based Novel Approach for Efficient Solar Energy Harnessing, International Research Symposium on Pure and Applied Sciences, Designing and Constructing a DC Microgrid with Uninterrupted Power Supply Capability and Optimizing its Energy Usage by Smart Controlling System, Simultaneous Control of Multiple Line-Loads Each Connected Separately in Series with a Designed unit (Control Using Radio Frequency and a Mobile Device), Acoustic Charge Transfer Devices, Development of Electronics from Vacuum Tubes to Integrated Circuits, Sulphurisation of Sequentially Electrodeposited Cu-In Alloy for the Preparation of Semiconductor Thin Films, Growth and Characterisation of CuInS₂ thin Films, Photoelectrochemical Characterisation of ZnSe Coated Copper Indium Sulphide Thin Film Electrodes, New Experimental Interpretation for the Emitter-Size Effect of AlGaAs/GaAs Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors and Thermally Stimulated Current Voltage Characteristics of Cu₂O/Cu_xS Diode were some of his publications.

He is currently serving as the Project Director of the Solar Edu-Training Project, Ministry of Science, Technology & Research and the Chairman of Sports Advisory Board, University of Kelaniya.
