The first educational journal " Tirasāra Academic Journal" of the Student Association of  Development Studies of the Department of Geography of the University of Kelaniya

was launched on 30.08.2022 at 2.00 pm in the Hall No. 1 111 of the Department of Geography under the guidance of the Head of the Department Prof. A.G. Amarasinghe.

The process of development is an ever-updating subject area from many fields and that development is currently functioning within the framework of sustainable development objectives. The main objective of this launch was to develop a series of meaningful and current articles for critical exploration in parallel with sustainable development, laying the foundation for a productive sustainable process.

Prof. A.G. Mr. Amarasinghe explained the value of the launch of this journal considering the crisis situation in our country lately. Professor Lal Marvin Dharmasiri, the Professor Emeritus of the department, spoke about the value of such external skills reflected in a university student.

Dr. Nishan Sakalasuriya, who proposed the name ' Tirasāra ' to the journal as well as the founder of the Development Studies Students' Association, was of the opinion that more and more such unique opportunities were created for the students of this association. Ms. Geetika Vaniganetti, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Geography, who commented further, was of the opinion that taking steps to publish the journal through digital technology using techniques that are suitable for today is a task that should be appreciated. Mr. Mangala Jayaratne, Senior Lecturer, who supervised all activities in the position of Senior Treasurer of the Development Studies Students' Association, expressed his gratitude to the academic staff of the Department who supported the activities of the Development Studies Students' Association and the launch of the journal.

Tirasāra Academic Journal – 2022, which was launched with the perspective of critical exploration of various aspects of development through the complex and vast global phenomenon. S. Purnima Srimali Wijewansa was the President of the Development Studies Students' Association and the secretary position were held by Vatsani Yashodhara. Upekshi Ranjana Fernando and Mihirini Liyanage were the co-journal editors. Along with the great efforts by the committee members of the Development Studies Students' Association,   Tirasāra Academic Journal – 2022 was successfully launched.
