International Workshop on Ancient Urbanization in Sri Lanka (IWAUS 2023) was held on the 12th and 13th of October 2023 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya. It was organized by the Department of Archaeology, and the Research Center for Social Sciences of the University of Kelaniya, University of Jaffna, Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, in collaboration with La Trobe University, Australia, and UNESCO Chair/Durham University, United Kingdom.
Sharing new knowledge about the research materials found by the researchers about the Ancient Civilization of Sri Lanka was the main intention of organizing the workshop.
Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya was the Chief Guest of the workshop. The keynote address was delivered by Professor Robin Conningham, UNESCO Chair Professor and Professor at Durham University.

Pushparathnam (University of Jaffna), Dr. Keir Strickland (La-Trobe University, Australia), Dr. Chris Davis (University of Durham), Dr. Arjuna Thantilage (PGIAR), Senior Lecturer Mrs. Sivaruby Sajitharan (University of Jaffna), Senior Lecturer Mr. Harendralal Namalgamuwa (University of Kelaniya), Mr. Jayampath Senananyaka (PGIAR), Senior Lecturer Mrs. Umanga Roshani (University of Kelaniya), Lecturer Mr. Indika Rajapaksha (University of Kelaniya), Senior Lecturer Waruni Wickramarachchi (University of Kelaniya), Lecturer Mrs. Suvimali Rathnayake (University of Kelaniya), Lecturer Mr. Sumedha Viraj (University of Kelaniya), Lecturer Mrs. Indrachapa Weerasinghe (University of Kelaniya), Deesha Ahulwalia (University of Baroda, India), and Kaveesha Nanayakkara (University of Kelaniya) presented the research materials on this subject.
Prof. M. M. Gunathilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor A.G. Amarasinghe, Director of RCSS, Senior Professor Gamini Adikari, Director of PGIAR, Prof. Gamini Ranasinghe, Director General of the Central Cultural Fund participated as honorable guests of the workshop. Officials of the Department of Archeology, officials of the Central Cultural Fund, officials of the Museum Department, all students of the Department of Archeology, University of Kelaniya, and students of the Department of Archeology of other universities also graced the event.
