The Women’s Football Team of the University of Kelaniya took part in the First Invitational Inter University Women’s Football Tournament, organized by the University of Colombo and held on the 2^nd and 03^rd of April 2026 at the University of Colombo.

The tournament brought together women’s football teams from several universities across the country, providing a competitive platform for young athletes to showcase their talent, teamwork, and determination. Representing the University of Kelaniya, the team displayed commendable performances throughout the tournament while gaining valuable exposure and experience.

The University of Kelaniya team began the tournament with a determined performance against Sabaragamuwa University, securing a 1–1 draw. Continuing their strong efforts, the team recorded another closely contested 2–2 draw against the University of Moratuwa. Despite facing a challenging match against the University of Colombo and concluding with a 0–3 result, the players demonstrated resilience and sportsmanship throughout the encounter.

In the third-place playoff match, the University of Kelaniya team fought with determination but finished with a 0–2 result. Although the final outcomes did not fully reflect the team’s aspirations, the tournament served as a valuable learning experience for the players.

Beyond the results, the tournament provided the team with greater confidence, exposure to competitive university-level football, and opportunities to strengthen teamwork and adaptability on the field. Each match contributed to the growth and development of the players, inspiring them to continue improving and striving for future success.

Notably, taking part in the inaugural Women’s Invitational Football Tournament marked a proud and memorable achievement for the University of Kelaniya Women’s Football Team, as the event represented an important milestone in the development of women’s football at the inter-university level in Sri Lanka.
