Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony 2020

Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 01st of January 2021 at the Dharmaloka Hall of the University as a virtual ceremony.

The prime objective of the Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony which is being held annually since 2007, was to appreciate the service of the academic & non- academic staff members during the last year and further encourage them.

Cadre Chair & Senior Prof. Ashoka Pathirathna was awarded a wall plaque for 40 years of Continuous and Meritorious Service. Moreover, 07 academic & non- academic staff members received Gold Plated Medals and Certificates for 35 years of Continuous and Meritorious Service. Further, 12 academic & non- academic staff members received Silver Plated Medals and Certificates for 30 years of Continuous and Meritorious Service while 63 academic & non- academic staff members received Bronze Plated Medals and Certificates for 25 years of Continuous and Meritorious Service.

Ms. M.I.P. Kumari, instructor in Physical Education- Faculty of Medicine received Vice- Chancellor's awards for bringing honour to the university by winning prestigious national or international awards. Moreover, 06 Emeritus Professors & Top 10 Researchers in the University of Kelaniya were recognized and awarded.

Prof. P.AD.H.N. Guanatilake, Department of Parasitology won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Medicine while Prof. D.S.G. Mettananda, Department of Paediatrics won its second place. Prof. H.T.C.S. Abeysena, Department of Public Health secured third place.

Prof. L.D. Amarasinghe, Department of Zoology and Environmental Management won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Science while Dr. C.S.K. Rajapakse and Prof. N. Jayathilaka of the Department of Chemistry won the second and third places respectively.

Dr. D.M.R. Dissanayake, Department of Marketing Management won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies while Dr. Ruwan Abeysekara, Department of Finance won its second place. Dr. D.K.Y. Abeywardhana, Department of Accountancy secured third place.

Prof. M.G. Kularathna, Department of Economics won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Social Sciences while Dr. S.A.D.H.N. Suraweera and Dr. A.W.AP.L. Wanigasooriya of the Department of Library & Information Science won the second and third places respectively.

Prof. K.L.K.N.C. Premawardheme, Department of Modern Languages won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Humanities while Prof. C.S.D. Wettewe, Department of English Language Teaching won the second place respectively.

Dr. K.P.P. Peiris, Department of Shalya-Shalakya won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Humanities while Dr. K.G.S. Dissanayake, Department of Cikitsa won the second place respectively.

Dr. Rathnasiri Premathilake received the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology. Dr. C.C. Jayasundara- Librarian was awarded the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Library.

Academic staff members awarded for the Outstanding Early Career Researcher, the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publications, the Recipient of the Highest Amount of External Research Grants, the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publications from University (Internal) Research Grants.

Prof. N.A.K.P.J. Senevirathna won the award for the Best Innovators/Inventors of the University while Prof. S.R.D. Kalingamudali, Dean- Faculty of Science & Dr. A.L.A.K. Ranaweera, Department of Physics & Electronics won the second place respectively.

Prof. K.L.K.N.C. Premawardhena, Acting Director- Centre for International Affairs & Dr. M.R.K.N. Yatigammana, Director- National E-Learning Resource Centre won the awards for most successful directors of the Centre/ Units/ Committee of the University.

Dr. P.G. Wijerathna, Dean- Faculty of Computing & Technology & Dr. Dr. M.R.K.N. Yatigammana, Director- National E-Learning Resource Centre won the awards for most outstanding creative production in the University.

Cadre Chair & Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice- Chancellor, Deans of Faculties, Directors of Postgraduate Institutes, Librarian, Registrar & Bursar were among the participants of this special ceremony.
