Viyasiduru by University of Kelaniya Wins More International Awards

Viyasiduru narrative movie; a production by the University of Kelaniya has won the award for Best Director in Paris International Film Awards 2021.

Further, it has won the award as the Best Postmodern Film in the category of Postmodern Films-Any length representing the final rounds of Calcutta International Cult Film Festival and World Film Carnival – Singapore. Moreover, Viyasiduru won the Special Jury Award as the Best Debut Filmmaker at the Golden Sparrow International Film Festival while securing the place as the Best International Feature Film at Port Blair International Film Festival. This is the first narrative movie that went to theaters as a creation made within a Sri Lankan university. It was produced under the Centre for Brand Image Development (CBID). Screenwriting and direction were done by Mr. Prabhath Agampodi; a lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts. It was a creative effort by the 01st batch of the Diploma in Film and Television. Cast includes veterans like Kalana Gunasekara, Shalani Tharaka, Lakshman Mendis, Thumindu Dodantenna, Dharamapriya Dias and Sanjeewa Dissanayake. Music direction was done by Milinda Thennakoon of the Department of Fine Arts. Susantha Mahagalgamuwa is the cinematographer. Currently, Viyasiduru is in the final rounds of the Vanilla Palm Film Festival & International Art Competition in California, Lulea International Film Festival in Sweden, Druk International Film festival in Bhutan, and Tagore International Film Festival in India.
