The ‘Inter-University Badminton Championships 2022’ organized by the University Kelaniya in collaboration with Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA) was held with the financial assistance of UGC,

from 11th to 13th November 2022 at the New Gymnasium, University of Kelaniya. 16 men teams and 15 women teams representing all 16 member universities of SLUSA took part in this competition.

Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice chancellor, University of Kelaniya, graced the Opening Ceremony as the chief guest on 11^th November. Present at this ceremony were Senior Prof. S. R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean, Faculty of Science, Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar, University of Kelaniya, Mr. G. G. U. Saman Kumara, Secretary General of the Sports Advisory Board, Mr Anusha de Silva, Assistant Secretary of SLUSA, Ms. Sarani Godamune, Assistant Treasurer of SLUSA, members of the Sports Advisory Board, and Instructors in Physical Education representing all universities.

The 1^st and 2^nd rounds of the group stage ties were held on the 11^th, 3^rd round of the group stage ties and quarter-final ties on the 12^th, and Semifinals, Consolation finals, and Finals on 13^th November. At this competition, both Men’s Championship and Women’s Championship were won by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The University of Kelaniya became the 1^st runner up and the university of Colombo became the 2^nd runner up of Men’s Championship while the University of Colombo became the 1^st runner up and the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka became the 2^nd runner up of women’s championship.

All the winners were awarded trophies at the awarding ceremony held on 13^th November under the patronage of Senior Prof. S. R. D. Kalingamudali, the Dean Faculty of Science and the of Sports Advisory Board University of Kelaniya. Mr. G G U Saman Kumara, Actg. Director of Physical Education of University of Kelaniya, Mrs. Ramani Kulathilake, Treasure of SLUSA, Mrs. Nishanthi Vidanagae, Director of Physical Education, University of Sri Jayewardenapura, Mr Anusha de Silva, Assistant Secretory of SLUSA, Ms. Sarani Godamune, Assistant Treasurer of SLUSA, Instructors of Physical Education of all participating universities and undergraduates were present at the occasion.
