Ceremony of Long Service Awards and Vice–Chancellor’s Awards 2023

The Ceremony of Long Service Awards and Vice-Chancellor’s Awards of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 02nd of January 2023 at the Dharmaloka Hall of the University.
The prime objective of the Ceremony, which is being held annually since 2007, was to appreciate the service of the academic & non-academic staff members during the previous year and encourage them further.
Prof. (Mrs) I. K. Jayasekara - Department of Western Classical Culture and Christian Culture, Prof. K. Karunathilaka - Department of Sociology, Prof. P. A. D. H. N. Gunathilaka - Department of Parasitology, Mr. K. M. H. V. Wijesinghe - Department of International Studies, and Dr. T. R. Premathilake – Postgraduate Institute of Archeology received Vice- Chancellor's awards for bringing honour to the university by winning prestigious national or international awards and to Academic Staff who have provided commendable service to the University.
Prof. P. A. D. H. N. Gunathilaka - Department of Parasitology, Dr. M. B. K. C. Dayasiri - Department of Pediatrics, Dr. A. K. A. B. Baminiwatta - Department of Psychiatry won first place, second place, and merit awards respectively for the Outstanding Young Researchers in the Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. (Mrs.) J. M. R. Fernando - Department of Finance won the award for the Outstanding Young Researcher in the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. Dr. (Mrs.) R. A. T. P. Rupasinghe - Department of Applied Computing won the award for the Outstanding Young Researcher Researcher in the Faculty of Computing and Technology.
Dr. (Mrs.) D. A. D. A. Daranagama - Department of Plant and Molecular Biology and Dr. (Mrs.) N. V. Chandrasekara - Department of Statistics and Computer Science secured the 1st and 2nd places respectively for the Outstanding Young Researchers in the Faculty of Science, while Mrs. A. M. C. H. Attanayake - Department of Statistics and Computer Science, Dr. J. N. Dahanayake - Department of Chemistry, Dr. (Ms.) K. C. Ayanthi - Department of Industrial Management, and Mr. T. D. Kodituwakku - Department of Plant and Molecular Biology won merit awards under the same category.
Prof. (Mrs.) L. D. Amarasinghe - Department of Zoology and Environmental Management won 1st place for the Outstanding Researcher in the Faculty of Computing and Technology, while both Prof. N. A. K. P. J. Seneviratne - Department of Chemistry, and Prof. (Ms.) N. Jayathilaka - Department of Chemistry secured 2nd place. Moreover, Senior Prof. (Mrs.) P. A. Paranagama - Department of Chemistry, Senior Prof. (Mrs.) B. M. Jayawardena - Department of Chemistry, Senior Prof. L. B. D. R. P. Wijesundara - Department of Physics and Electronics, Prof. G. A. S. M. Ganehiarachchi - Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, Prof. (Mrs.) D. S. M. De Silva - Department of Chemistry, Prof. (Mrs.) P. A. S. R. Wickramarachchi - Department of Chemistry, Prof. (Mrs.) B. T. S. D. P. Kannangara - Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, Prof. (Mrs.) W. A. R. T. W. B. Perera - Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, Prof. (Ms.) K. P. R. N. Attanayake - Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, Prof. K. M. D. C. Jayathilaka - Department of Physics and Electronics, Dr. (Mrs.) W. M. A. P. Halmillawewa - Department of Microbiology, and Dr. D. D. C. de S. Wanniarachchi - Department of Chemistry won merit awards under the same category.
Dr. (Ms.) A. M. Welhenge - Department of Computer Systems Engineering received the award for being the Outstanding Researcher in the Faculty of Computing and Technology.
Dr. (Mrs.) H. A. K. N. S. Surangi - Department of Commerce and Financial Management and Dr. (Mrs.) R. A. I. C. Karunarathne - Department of Human Resource Management secured 1st and 2nd places respectively under the category of Outstanding Researchers in the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies while Prof. A. C. de Alwis - Department of Human Resource Management and Dr. (Mrs.) K. G. M. Nanayakkara - Department of Commerce and Financial Management were awarded merits.
Prof. W. M. M. L. Chandradasa - Department of Psychiatrists and Prof. D. S. G. Mettananda - Department of Pediatrics won 1st and 2nd places respectively for being Outstanding Researchers in the Faculty of Medicine while Prof. (Mrs.) K. C. D. Mettananda - Department of Pediatrics, Dr. (Ms.) R. M. S. L. Ranaweera - Department of Anatomy, and Dr. E. P. D. S. Ediriweera - Department of Anatomy won merit awards.
Dr. P. W. Samarasekara - Department of Applied Computing and Prof. (Mrs.) D. S. M. de Silva - Department of Chemistry were the recipients of the Highest Amount of External Research Grants in the Faculties of Computing and Technology, and Science respectively.
Prof. (Mrs.) P. A. Paranagama - Department of Chemistry and Prof. G. A. S. M. Ganehiarachchi - Department of Zoology & Environmental Management were awarded for being the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publications in indexed Journals in the Faculty of Science.
Moreover, the Faculty with the most number of Research Papers presented in Research Conferences/ Symposia Organized by it and its Departments/ Centers/ Units in the University, was the Faculty of Science while Prof. S.R.D. Kalingamudali, Dean - Faculty of Science accepted it on behalf of the faculty.
Prof. (Mrs.) P. A. S. R. Wickramarachchi - Department of Chemistry was awarded for being the Researcher with the most publications from University (Internal) research grants in 2022.
Prof. (Ms.) N. Jayathilaka - Department of Chemistry, Prof. N. A. K. P. J. Seneviratne - Department of Chemistry, Prof. S. R. D. Kalingamudali – Dean - Faculty of Science, Prof. A. L. A. K. Ranaweera - Department of Physics & Electronics, and Dr. P. L. A. K. Piyumal - Department of Physics & Electronics, were awarded the 1st place, Prof. L. B. D. R. P. Wijesundara - Department of Physics & Electronics, Prof. K. M. D. C. Jayathilaka - Department of Physics & Electronics, and Dr. J. A. Seneviratne - Department of Physics & Electronics were awarded the 2nd place while Prof.(Mrs.) B. M. Jayawardena - Department of Chemistry, secured 3rd place under the category of the best innovators/ inventors in the university. Also, Mr. C. A. N. W. K. Jayatissa - Department of Physics & Electronics, and Prof. (Mrs.) D. S. M. de Silva - Department of Chemistry were awarded merits under the same category.
Prof. (Mrs.) K. L. K. N. C. Premawardhena – Director - Centre for International Affairs, Prof. (Mrs.) C. D. S. Wettewe – Director - Career Guidance Unit, Dr. (Mrs.) E. A. D. A. Edirisinghe – Director - Centre for Gender Studies and Mr. R. S. G. Rajapaksha – Director - Communication & Media Unit were awarded under the category of the most successful directors of the centre/ unit/ committee of the University.
Dr. (Mrs.) W. A. C. Weerakoon - Department of Statistics & Computer Science was awarded as the best Promoter of International Relations in the University.
Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor, Deans of Faculties, Directors of Postgraduate Institutes, Librarian, Registrar & Bursar were among the participants of this special ceremony. All the awards, medals, and certificates were distributed by the Vice-Chancellor Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva. Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Registrar, Bursar, Librarian, and academic & non-academic staff members were among the distinguished guests.
