The Discussion on the Sri Lanka Citation Index

In a significant move to boost academic research and collaboration among scholars, the University of Kelaniya, in partnership with the National Science Foundation and the National Research Council, has initiated the dialogue of the Sri Lanka Citation Index (SLCI) on 25th of October 2023 at Vice Chancellors Office, University of Kelaniya.
The event drew prestigious dignitaries and academics, including Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, and Senior Professor Maithree Wickramasinghe. Dr. Chamli Pushpakumara, the Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Technology and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on UoK Rankings, graced the occasion. Professor Narada Fernando, Coordinator of the EUS Project, also attended, along with Mr. G. H. B. A. de Silva, the Webmaster, and Dr. C. C. Jayasundara, the University Librarian.
Representatives from the National Science Foundation included Dr. J. G. Shantha Siri, Additional Director, and Mr. Manuja Karunarathne, Head of the National Science Library & Resource Centre, who also serves as the Chief Officer of SLJOL. The National Research Council was well-represented by Dr Shanika Jayasekera, Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. Sampath Nonis, Assistant Director (Scientific Affairs) and Secretary to the Council.
During this presentation of the Sri Lanka Citation Index (SLCI) and subsequent brainstorming sessions, the members emphasized its significance as a milestone in the country’s academic landscape. The primary aim of the SLCI is to provide a comprehensive platform for indexing and accessing research outputs across all disciplines, free from discipline biases, including Humanities and Social Sciences. This initiative will increase visibility for Sri Lankan researchers and their work on the global stage, promoting greater engagement and collaboration within the academic community.
The Sri Lanka Citation Index holds the potential to revolutionize the academic landscape in Sri Lanka and beyond, fostering inclusivity and encouraging scholarly collaboration.
