The Debate Union of the University of Kelaniya met Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya on the 27^th of December 2023 at the Vice Chancellor’s Office concerning their victorious achievement of being champions at the Capital Maharaja Group’s Inter-University Debating Tournament.

The tournament was held in conjunction with the commemoration of “Human Rights Day 2023” and the 75^th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The crowning moment of this achievement was celebrated with an award ceremony on 10^th December 2023, where the University of Kelaniya Debate Union was presented with a cash prize of LKR 250,000.

The event was graced by Professor Chaminda Abeysinghe, Head of the Department of International Studies, and members of the Debate Union.
