Dr. Kasun Fernando appointed as the Director of Student Affairs

Dr. Kasun Fernando, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Computing, Faculty of Computing and Technology was appointed as the Director of Student Affairs of the University of Kelaniya with effect from 12th February 2024.

Dr. Kasun Fernando is a distinguished scholar and researcher with over a decade of expertise in nanoelectronics, micro/nanofabrication, and material synthesis and characterization. With a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Louisville, USA Dr. Kasun has significantly contributed to the field, particularly in renewable energy research focused on photovoltaic devices such as organic, dye-sensitized, and perovskite solar cells.

Having spent several years as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka, Dr. Kasun has also been actively involved in teaching undergraduate courses in material technology and physics. His dedication to advancing science and technology is evident through his involvement as the chairperson of the 6th International Conference on Advancements of Technology and Computing at the University of Kelaniya.

Dr. Kasun’s research experience extends to prestigious institutions such as the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he conducted groundbreaking studies on halide perovskites and their applications in energy harvesting devices. His proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation, coupled with his expertise in data analysis software, underscores his versatility as a researcher.

In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Kasun has received recognition for his contributions, including teaching and research assistantships, highlighting his commitment to scholarly pursuits and educational excellence. His multidisciplinary approach, coupled with a passion for innovation, positions him as a prominent figure in nanotechnology and renewable energy research.
