The “Helabojun” canteen of the University of Kelaniya, constructed under the supervision of the Department of Agriculture, Sri Lanka, was opened on the 06^th of August 2024, at the Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Social Sciences premises of the University of Kelaniya.

The primary objective of this initiative is to promote healthy eating habits and support the local community while offering non-toxic, nutritious foods and affordable meals to the university community.

The event was honoured by the participation of Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, as the Chief Guest.

The occasion also saw the participation of distinguished guests, including the Deans of all faculties, the Registrar, Bursar, Chief Medical Officer, Heads of Departments, Administrative Officers, Mrs. A. M. Gunawardhana, Provincial Director of Agriculture (WP), and other officers from the Department of Agriculture.
