151st General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya

The 151st General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya was held ceremoniously on the 25th of August 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.
At this convocation, Senior Professor Aggamaha Panditha Ven. Kotapitiye Rahula Anunāyaka Thero was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature in recognition of his extensive contributions, including his academic service to advancement of Pali and Buddhist Studies, his administrative service for national and international development of the field and his overall contribution to the progress of Theravada Buddhism and the Sāsana, both locally and globally. This honour further recognized his intellectual achievements on the international stage.
The convocation ceremony consisted of 03 sessions. During the 1st session, 11 graduands of the Doctor of Philosophy Degree, 05 graduands of the Master of Philosophy Degree, 08 graduands of the Master of Arts (Two Years) Degree, 378 graduands of the Master of Arts Degree, and 92 graduands of the Postgraduate Diploma, offered by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, were conferred.
At this session, Ven. Nguyen Thi Lan Theri was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies Examination in the year 2023. Mr. Kottawatta Hewage Hemantha Kumara was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Master of Arts in Buddhist Counseling Examination in the year 2023. Ven. Nguyen Thi Da Thao Theri was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Master of Arts in Buddhist Counseling Examination in the year 2023. Ven. Karrunika Thero was awarded the Silver Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Studies Examination in the year 2023. Ven. Ho Thi Sang Thero was awarded the Silver Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Studies Examination in the year 2023. Ms. Mag Gamage Sandaruwani Deepthika was awarded the Silver Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Counseling Examination in the year 2023. Ven. Poojapitiye Sooriyarathana Thero was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Pali Language of Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies Examination in the year 2023. Ven. Thumingala Thero was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Pali Language of Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies Examination in the year 2023. Ven. Carana Narni Thero was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies, for obtaining the highest marks at the Pali Language of Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies Examination in the year 2023.
During the 2nd session, 122 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Accountancy Degree, 03 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management (Special) in Accountancy Degree, 49 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Auditing and Forensic Accountancy Degree, 128 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Human Resource Degree, 03 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management (Special) in Human Resource Degree, 96 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Marketing Degree, 45 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Digital Marketing Degree, and 01 graduand of the Bachelor of Business Management (Special) in Marketing Degree, offered by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, were conferred.
At this session, Ms. Warnakulasooriya Sanduni Shashikala Peiris was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Chartered Institute of Personal Management of Sri Lanka, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Human Resource Degree. Ms. Fathima Rahma Saadiya Zuhri was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Wardena Venture Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, and the Gold Medal offered by the Macksons Tiles Lanka (Private) Ltd, for being the Most Outstanding Student of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Human Resource Degree. Mr. Thenuja Onel Bandara Marasinghe was awarded the Gold Medal offered by Sri Lanka Telecom, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Marketing Degree. Ms. Athukoralalage Ishini Upeksha Kumari Athukorala was awarded the Meril J Fernando Gold Medal offered by Dilmah Ceylon Tea (PVT) Ltd, for being the Best Achiever to the best all round students in academic, sports and extra-curricular activities in Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Marketing Degree. Mr. Hirusha Indumina Weerasinghe was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Ogilvy Digital (Pvt) Ltd, for obtaining the highest marks in Information Technology and Systems Course Units in the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Digital Marketing Degree. Mr. Warnakulasuriya Stefan Nilanka Thamel was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Ro Global (Pvt) Ltd, for being the Most Outstanding Student of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Digital Marketing Degree, and the Gold Medal offered by the Bank of Ceylon, for obtaining the highest marks in all the Bachelor’s Honours examinations of Faculty of the Commerce and Management Studies. Ms. Kotte Hewaralalage Sanduni Nisanka Fernando was awarded the Gold Medal offered Institute of Certified Management Accounts of Sri Lanka, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Accountancy Degree, and the Gold Medal offered by Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, for obtaining the highest marks in Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Accountancy Degree.
During the 3rd session, 68 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Finance Degree, 62 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Financial Engineering Degree, 34 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Banking Degree, 26 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Insurance Degree, 124 graduands of the Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree, 47 graduands of the Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Financial Management Degree, 44 graduands of the Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Business Technology Degree, 40 graduands of the Bachelor of Commerce Honours Entrepreneurship Degree, and 01 graduand of the Bachelor of Commerce (Special) in Entrepreneurship Degree, offered by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, were conferred.
At this session, Ms. Mylan Achchige Thisari Hasangana was awarded the Ven. Kirivatthuduwe Pragnasara Thero Memorial Gold Medal offered by the Alumni Association of the University of Kelaniya, for obtaining the highest GPA in all the Bachelor’s Honours examinations of Faculty of the Commerce and Management Studies; the Gold Medal offered by the Young Entrepreneurs Association, for obtaining the highest GPA in the Bachelor of Commerce Honours Entrepreneurship Degree; and the Gold Medal offered by the Linus Silva Scholarship Fund, for obtaining the highest GPA in the Bachelor's Honours examinations of Department of Commerce and Financial Management. Ms. Panagodage Tharushi Sewmini Kaushalya Perera was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, for obtaining the highest marks in capital market-related subjects in the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Finance Degree, and the Gold Medal offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, for obtaining the highest marks in the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Finance Degree. Ms. Arthika Anandaramesh was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Edinborough Products (Pvt) Ltd, for obtaining the highest GPA in the Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree. Ms. Naullage Anushika Lakmalee was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Business Technology Association, for obtaining the highest GPA in the Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Business Technology Degree. Ms. Pestheruwe Liyanaralalage Isurika Sandamini Cooray was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the LB Finance PLC, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Financial Management Degree. Ms. Singankutti Arachchige Shashini Tharuka Samarasena was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Institute of Bankers in Sri Lanka, for obtaining the highest marks in the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Banking Degree. Ms. Jayasooriya Arachchige Vinodya Sithumini was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Chartered Financial Analysts Society of Sri Lanka, for being the most outstanding student in the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Finance. Mr. Ethugalage Tharindu Darshana Jayawickrama Ethugala was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Association of Professional Bankers for being the most outstanding student in the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Banking Degree. Mr. Thennakoon Mudiyanselage Sakuna Thennakoon was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Acuity knowledge Partners (Pvt) Ltd., for obtaining the highest marks in the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Financial Engineering Degree. Mr. Rathnayake Liyana Arachchillage Roshan Ravindu Rathnayake was awarded the Gold Medal offered by KPMG Sri Lanka, for being the most outstanding student in Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Financial Engineering Degree. Mr. Gurusinghe Arachchige Pasindu Samadhith was awarded the Gold Medal offered by y Softlogic Life Insurance PLC, for obtaining the highest marks in the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Insurance Degree. Mr. Wattage Imesh Nimnad Fernando was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Janashakthi Insurance Group, for being the most outstanding student in Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Insurance Degree.
