Seven Scientists of the University of Kelaniya Recognized in Stanford–Elsevier Global Ranking of Top-Cited Researchers

Seven distinguished scientists from the University of Kelaniya have been recognized in the August 2025 data-update for "Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators (Version 8),” released on 19th September 2025 by Stanford University and Elsevier. This update places them among 63 Sri Lankan scientists included in the prestigious list of the world’s most-cited researchers.
The globally recognized database, which classifies scientists into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, evaluates research impact based on both career-long achievements and single recent year performance.
In the career-long impact category, the list features Senior Professor Nilanthi Renuka de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Emeritus Professor Janaka de Silva, Department of Medicine; and Professor Anuradhani Kasturiratne, Department of Public Health. In the single recent year impact category, Senior Professor Nilanthi Renuka de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Emeritus Professor Janaka de Silva, Department of Medicine; Senior Professor Ananda Rajitha Wickremasinghe, Department of Public Health; Senior Professor Asita de Silva, Department of Pharmacology; Professor Sachith Gopeetha Mettananda, Department of Paediatrics; Professor Anuradhani Kasturiratne, Department of Public Health; and Professor Nayana Gunathilaka, Department of Parasitology have been included.
Selection to this ranking is based on Scopus data and is limited to the top 100,000 scientists worldwide or those ranked within the top 2% of their specific sub-field.
