University of Kelaniya Students Shine at FUA 3-Minute Speech Competition 2025

University of Kelaniya proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of its students at the FUA 3-Minute Speech Competition 2025, organized by the Flyway Universities Alliance (FUA) in collaboration with the East Asian–Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) and Beijing Forestry University. The Competition was held virtually on the 16th of October 2025. Competing against talented participants from China, Korea, and Russia, three students from the University of Kelaniya excelled in the final round, bringing international recognition to Sri Lanka.

Amaya Wijekoon secured the Second Prize for her speech titled “The Cities That Forgot How to Listen,” while Charindu Jayasahan Wijeratne and Buddhima Gunawardena both won the Third Prize for their presentation on “Shared Spaces: Bird-friendly cities and human communities.” Charindu also received the Most Popular Presenter award, earning appreciation from both the panel and the audience for his engaging delivery.

The panel of judges included prominent international experts: Prof. Lei Guangchun from Beijing Forestry University, Matthew Vincent Tabilog from EAAFP, Soon Won Chung from Ghent University Global Campus, Dr. Diana Solovyeva from the Institute of Biological Problems of the North FEB RAS, and Dr. Kalya Subasinghe from the University of Kelaniya.

The competition encouraged participants to convey their research ideas within three minutes, focusing on conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable urban living. The exceptional performance of the University of Kelaniya students reflects the university’s dedication to nurturing globally competitive scholars with a strong sense of environmental responsibility. The University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Amaya, Charindu, and Buddhima for their remarkable accomplishments and for proudly representing Sri Lanka on the international stage.
