University of Kelaniya Progress Up in UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2025

The University of Kelaniya proudly secured 2nd place in Sri Lanka and 189th globally in the prestigious UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2025.
With an impressive total score of 8,200 out of 10,000, the university strengthen its position globally, from 228 in 2024 as one of the leading Green Universities in Sri Lanka and the region. This accomplishment reflects how the University of Kelaniya implements and sustains its sustainability initiatives in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UI GreenMetric framework, highlighting the impact on both the university and society.
The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking evaluates institutions based on six key categories: Setting and Infrastructure (SI), Energy and Climate Change (EC), Waste (WS), Water (WR), Transport (TR), and Education (ED). In 2025, the University of Kelaniya excelled in these categories, achieving 850 in SI, 1750 in EC, 1775 in WS, 937.5 in WR, 1312.5 in TR, and 1575 in ED.
The Center for Sustainability Solutions (CSS) at the University of Kelaniya played a pivotal role in driving these achievements by coordinating sustainability practices, monitoring progress, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility across the university. This reflects the university’s proactive approach to environmental stewardship over recent years.
