Two Distinguished Academics from Kelaniya Inducted as Fellows of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka

Two eminent senior academics from the University of Kelaniya were formally inducted as Fellows of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka (NASSL) along with 5 other new Fellows, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to science, at a simple ceremony held on 20 June 2026 in the Access Towers II, Colombo 02.
Senior Professor Asita de Silva, Professor of Pharmacology in the Faculty of Medicine and former Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority was introduced by Professor Anuja Premawardhane, while Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Professor in Chemistry in the Faculty of Science and the incumbent Chairman of the University Grants Commission was introduced by Professor Emeritus Jayantha Wijayaratna.
Professor Emeritus Malik Ranasinghe, President of the NASSL; Professor Emerita Preethi Udugama, Secretary of the NASSL; and Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-President of the NASSL and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya presided over the event.
