“Gananathage Rachana” Launched

“Gananathage Rachana”, the collection of research articles edited by Senior Lecturer Dr. Sarath Vitharana, Faculty of Social Sciences and Lecturer Mr. Chinthaka Ranasinghe, Faculty of Humanities of the University of Kelaniya was launched on the 13th of December 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

 

The book contains Sinhala translations of 12 research articles based on the research studies conducted on society, culture, folklore and religious and political backgrounds of Sri Lanka by Prof. Gananath Obeysekara who is an award- winning professor in Human Sciences at the Princeton University, USA.

 

In relation to the launch, three lectures on the role of “Gananathage Rachana” research article collection and Gananath Obeysekara were also conducted. Prof. Jayadeva Uyangoda conducted its first lecture emphasizing on the role of Gananath Obeysekara in the research studies relevant to social and human sciences and the second lecture was conducted by Prof. P.B. Meegaskumbura on History, Human Sciences and Literature. Prof. Kalinga Tudor delivered the third lecture based on a critical approach to the translation: “Gananathage Rachana”.

The event was held under the patronage of Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. Present at the occasion were Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, Dean- Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Patrick Rathnayke, Dean- Faculty of Humanities, Senior Lecturer Dr. P.N.D. Fernando, Dean- Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, Ven. Dr. Kapugollewe Anandakiththi Thero, Chief student Counsellor, Cadre Chair and Senior Prof. N.P. Sunil- Chandra, Chairman- Research Council, Senior Lecturer Dr. M.G. Kularathne, Director- Research Centre (Faculty of Social Sciences), academic staff members of the University of Kelaniya and other universities, researchers and undergraduates.
