Ms. Kumari wins a Silver medal in Taekwondo at the 13th South Asian Games.

M.I.P Kumari brings fame to University of Kelaniya by winning a Silver medal in Taekwondo at the 13th South Asian Games. 

Ms. M.I.P Kumari who is an instructress in Physical Education of the Department of Physical Education, University of Kelaniya won the Silver medal in - 49 kg weight category of Taekwondo in the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) 2019, Kathmandu which was held from 1st to 10th December 2019 in Kathmandu, Nepal. 

Ms. Kumari beat Bhutan and Pakistani players in 1st round and in semifinals and then she was only beaten by an Indian player. Taekwondo players from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh participated for the competition. Gold medal of this weight category was won by India while, bronze medals were won by Pakistan and Nepal. 

Ms. Kumari met Prof D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor of the university at the Vice-Chancellor's office and the Vice-Chancellor conveyed his gratitude about her victory. Ms. Kumari warmly welcomed at the Bandaranayake International airport by Mr. G.G.U Saman Kumara, the Acting Director of Physical Education, on behalf of the university.
