Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony 2019

Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 01st of January 2020 at the Dharmaloka Hall of the University.

The prime objective of the Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony which is being held annually since 2007, was to appreciate the service of the academic & non- academic staff members during the last year and further encourage them.

Letters of Appreciation were awarded to 17 non- academic staff members. Service of 75 non- academic staff members who have taken minimum number of leaves in the year 2019 were also appreciated.

Prof. Y.M.S. Madduma Bandara  was awarded a wall plaque for 40 years of Continuous and Meritorious Service. Moreover, 10 academic & non- academic staff members received Gold Plated Medals and Certificates for 35 years of Continuous and Meritorious Service. Further, 15 academic & non- academic staff members received Silver Plated Medals and Certificates for 30 years of Continuous and Meritorious Service while 42 academic & non- academic staff members received Bronze Plated Medals and Certificates for 25 years of Continuous and Meritorious Service.

31 academic staff members received Vice- Chancellor's awards for bringing honour to the university by winning prestigious national or international awards. Moreover, Top 10 Researchers in the University of Kelaniya were recognized and awarded.

Senior Lecturer Dr. D.K.Y. Abeywardhana, Department of Accountancy and Senior Lecturer Dr. S.D. Edirisinghe, Department of Commerce and Financial Management received awards as the Outstanding Senior Researchers of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies while Senior Lecturer Dr. D.M.R. Dissanayake, Department of Marketing Management won its third place.

Prof. M.A. Niriella, Department of Medicine won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Medicine while Prof. A.P. Premawardhena, Department of Medicine won its second place. Prof. H.T.C.S. Abeysena, Department of Public Health secured third place.

Prof. U.S. Amarasinghe, Department of Zoology and Environmental Management won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Science while Dr. P.A.S.R. Wickramarachchi and Prof. N. Jayathilaka of the Department of Chemistry won the second and third places respectively.

Senior Lecturer Dr. D.M. Ajith Dissanayake, Department of Economics received the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Prof. Raj Somadeva received the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology. Prof. W.M. Deshapriya Gunasena was awarded the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies.

The awards were distributed to the academic staff members for the Outstanding Early Career Researcher, the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publications, the Recipient of the Highest Amount of External Research Grants, the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publications from University (Internal) Research Grants. Moreover, the Faculty with the Most Number of Research Papers Presented in Research Conferences/ Symposia Organized by It and Its Departments/ Centers/ Units in the University, the Most Successful Director of the Voluntary Centre/ Unit/ Committee of the University, the Best Innovator in the University, the Best Promoter of International Relations in the University and Awards under AHEAD Project were awarded. The Heads of Units, Councils and Centers were also appreciated for their outstanding and selfless dedication.

All the awards, medals and certificates were distributed by the Vice- Chancellor Prof. D.M. Semasinghe. Present at the occasion were Senior Prof. Lakshman Senaviarathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Registrar, Bursar, Librarian, academic & non- academic staff members.
