MoU Signed Between University of Kelaniya and Ceylinco Life Insurance

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between University of Kelaniya and Ceylinco Life Insurance on 14th of January, 2020.

The said MoU was signed as an initiation to restore and maintain fifty hectares (123.5 acres) of land owned by the Department of Forest Conservation in the Puttalam range. The Centre for Sustainability Solutions (CSS) of University of Kelaniya will work in collaboration with Ceylinco Life Insurance to enhance environmental sustainability. This effort will ensure the conservation of environment and achievement of zero carbon emissions by these two institutions. 

During the project period, University of Kelaniya will observe the proper maintenance of the reforested land, conduct field surveys and research studies in the forest to collect relevant information and data to formulate the forest management plan and conduct academic programmes in the restored forest land as needed for undergraduates and other relevant stakeholders. Group of experts from CSS who are specialized in the fields of forestry, archeology and environmental already made a field visit to do the initial assessment.

Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya graced the event as the Chief Guest. Moreover, Senior Lecturer Dr. Rangika Bandara, Director- Centre for Sustainable Solution, academic staff members, invited officers of Forest Department Sri Lanka and undergraduates participated in the event.
